Soldier1964... your original post has confused us because I'm sure there is an error in it.

You posted: One will read N39'52.20", while the other reads N39'52.33.

I think what one read was N39degrees52'20" and the other read N39degrees52.33'
Sorry, can't type a degree sign on this computer. As Richard said.. 20 seconds is the same as point 33 minutes. Therefore both your pc and handheld are displaying the same position, but in different formats. Btw, you can easily change one of the formats to agree with the other. (the symbol for degrees is a small upper case 0, minutes is ', and seconds is ").

If the chart plotter has the boat shaped icon with the circles around it in the blue part of the chart and not near the brown part you are OK. If it starts getting near the brown part you need to stop chasing the first mate around the cabin and go look outside.
If the chart plotter has the boat shaped icon with the circles around it "aimed" along that black line 'to destination" you are OK. If "to destination" is inside the the smallest circle then you need to stop chasing the first mate around the cabin and take a look outside.
Can't say that I actually read the Lat, long on the GPS much unless the chart plotter dies and then there is still not much to read lat long wise. Course that just leaves more time to chase the first mate around the cabin don't it.

LOL- and if the chart plotter shows you are anchored ashore, when you KNOW you are several hundred feet off, the chart it's based on is most definitely wrong!!

When I was doing celestial, I figured the pencil line on the chart was around 500 feet thick. I LOVE MY CHART PLOTTER, it, as mentioned above, also gives me lots more time to chase my first mate around the cabin (about 4 hours a day!).
