Ahoy mates ,
Any suggestions on what water heater I should purchase for my 1997 oceanis 400? I guess the last owner decommissioned the previous water heater and never replaced . Thanks for any suggestions . Cheers ,Ben

Most likely a 6 gal Kuuma water heater . You should have hoses from the engine also that hook up to it so it heats when engine is running. You can get them with heat exchanger with front or rear hookup, water hookup is on the front. On my boat heat exchanger from engine is rear hookup

I would go as big as you can! I have an 11 gallon heater on my 38, and it's a world of improvement over the 6 gallon heater on my previous boat. Also, if you can augment the insulation, that's a good move. Mine is now covered with a fitted glove of closed-cell foam that the previous owner must have fabricated. Works great.

It is your boat and you do not have to live with any rules under the "bennetae oceanis 400" manual.

Do you like taking long hot steamy showers, then you might look for a large capacity water heater, and while at it enlarge the water tank too accommodate your needs.

IIf you are planning to locate it in the place of the old unit then the space may limit the size.
Torrid makes a 40GL unit MVS 40 2IX 2EL Explorer Series Marine Water Heater, Vertical 24V DC, 1500W & 3000W,
but it does require a 24V power system.

On my 35ft boat I opted for a 6 gal fast recover unit similar in shape to the KUUMA

Isotherm as a great name. Available in a variety of sizes. Know to keep water hot long after the unit turns off due to good tank insulation
Isotemp Spa Water Heaters

Lots of options, prices, and sizes to fit the most discerning boat owner.

I wanted to say "thanks" for this post. I'm replacing my HWH in my Beneteau 36.1 and this was the perfect starting point.

I replaced my 11 gallon OEM tank which I think was a seaward at 16 years old (still worked fine but rusty shell) and replaced with a 9 gallon Isotemp. Fantastic heater... plenty of water for 2 very hot showers and leftover..... Well insulated and great heat exchanger. I replaced all hoses at the same time as well.

Good Luck!
