I have sailed small boats for about 5 years and I've never rigged any headsail other than a jib and genoa. The 21' boat I bought this year has something called a jenecker (seems to combine the words jenny and genoa). It has a pole with it that seems to hook to the mast. The 3 ends of the sail are marked 'head', 'clew' and 'tack'. there are lines attached to the clew and tack points and I assume that the 'head' hooks to the jib halyard and either the 'clew' or 'tack' points hook to the pole? Lead me to an instructional site or tell me how to rig. I sail in easy wind (5 - 15 knots) and don't intend to fly this thing except downwind in mild winds. Thanks

gennaker

It's a combination of genoa and spinnaker, but more like an asymetrical spinnaker.

Bil sv Makai

Geneaker no just downwind

Makai carries a genaker and we love to use it. It works well downwind but is better as you come off the wind and it starts to draw. We just flew ours for 300 miles from PLC to Bonaire and it was great. We were slightly off the wind and it pulled. As we came around the south east of Bonaire we swung the sail up to a beam reach and continued to pour on the speed. Though not a fast as a spinaker downwind we found it to be a versital sail and love ours. We got it via CDI sails. North sails makes all of their sails. Quality is good and the price was right.
