Hi,
I just acquired a 1974 O'day Widgeon.
Does anyone have a rigging plan they can share?

I have an expanded version of the original O'DAY rigging instructions that I have put into a booklet form. It contains lots of info on the WIDGEON through out the 20+ years of production. There are plenty of diagrams of the rigging, and scans of many Widgeon sales brochures.
I used to have a 1969 WIDGEON and they are a GREAT boat! My Rigging Guide/Manual is based on experience with my old Widgeon as well as info given to me by Rudy Nickerson at D&R Marine.

Contact me for info on copies of my manual

I do need to ask for $10.00 to cover printing and postage, but my manual covers a lot more that O'Day originally included with the boats.

If you look in Yahoo groups 'Odayowners' files, you'll find rigging intructions for a 1966 Widgeon with pictures. These are essentially the same instructions needed for yours. I used them to figure out how to rig my '79 Widgeon. Good Luck!

Call Rudy at D&R Marine in Assonet Ma. He is still building, rigging, and supplying everything a Widgeon owner might need. He is an invaluable resource when it comes to all things O'Day

Dear Sunbird,

Thank you so much for this post. I had been looking for a Widgeon for years as I felt it was a great boat to teach my grandchildren to sail on. So, I bought one last year (it needed work) and had repairs done to the hull over the winter by a local fiberglass place. Now that that is done, I need to understand the rigging, etc. I really need a manual on the Widgeon, particulary the rigging schema. I'm not sure how to set up the traveler for the mainsail and I don't even know if I have all the equipment; rigging, I need. I'm a gramma...so this is not a project I've alot of experience in doing...setting up a sail boat. However, I grew up on the coast of Maine...of a sailing family...so I do know that once it's set up and in the water, I will have NO trouble.

Anyway, if I can get a copy of that manual and rigging instructions I would really appreciate it. Also, I'm wondering if I really were to get stuck...ie..couldn't figure things out, could I ever haul my boat over to your place so that you could take a look? I'm in Kingston MA and I believe you are in Wareham; so I could easily bring the boat over.

Please understand that I sailed as a child but haven't been able to do it again for many years due to work/time issues. Now that I'm retired I'd like to sail again, starting with this little Widgeon. But, at the moment I'm just lost. I have the mast/boom/sails/rudder/centerboard but little else. I just plain don't know where to start. If you are willing to help; I'd appreciate it!

I am a new widgeon owner and by no means an expert on anything. It appears to me that the mainsheet rigging is fairly simple and straightforward. The main sheet line is attached to the aft end of the boom, goes down through the single block traveler, back up through the aft block and then forward block on the bottom of the boom and then through the main jam cleat on the aft of the top of the centerboard well. If that isn't correct, I would appreciate it if someone would let me know. Thanks.
