Has anybody removed and resealed the cabin tinted windows on their O'Day and if so, what did you use to reseal (3M 795 maybe)? Did you clean up the windows and if so how and is here a metal frame behind the windows?

I am almost done with re-bedding all deck items and have the windows to do next. I would love to clean the windows somehow and I o have the Makita 9720 with a foam pad and the soft pad. Would love to polish those babies up for clarity.

I replaced the windows on my 272. They were originally sealed with Dow 795 sealant. That is what I used to apply the new ones. There are only cheap, plastic frames in the interior. There are no frames supporting the windows. The windows on the 272 are 1/4" plexi. I got them from Rudy at DR Marine. The screws that attach them to the outside of the cabin are only to hold them in place while the sealant dries. You can loosen them or remove them and seal the holes after the sealant dries. I left them and loosened them. DR Marine included complete instructions for replacing the windows. The old windows were crazed and cracked in places. They needed replacing.

I will polish them carefully this offseason.

I used this article to replace my surface mount windows without using fasteners. Looks fantastic, has held up well for 2 season now. http://www.sailmagazine.com/diy/ask-sail/replacing-fixed-portlights/

I used hot glue to set 3 blocks to guide window into place - 2 along the top and one at the back edge. I used blocks along the top because I placed the window with a bead of 795 along the bottom, knowing I wouldn't be able to get the caulk gun under the bottom edge. The blocks are necessary because you only get 1 chance to position properly using the 3M VHB double sided tape.

I believe the article also discusses flush mount fixed windows with a frame. I never read any of that part, 'cos I don't have that kind of window.
