my experiences
my experience is that if I need a part for my O'day and it is a part that is generic to sailing (electrical,electronic,sails, etc.) I'll go to the cheapest place I can find. However, If I need something specific to an O"day sailboat (including information and advice) I always go to Rudy first. The knowledge he has about O"day's line of bats is scary. ps. Odayowners and D&R MArina are seperate entities. my $.02

Buying O'Day parts
Stu, I've ordered parts from both D&R and the Chandlery and have never had any problems with either. The one time I called D&R I was disappointed with the rather customer service I received, but that may have been the exception to the norm. I do wish they would put more product pictures on their website, but the ones I've ordered have been fine. Eric

Just FYI...D&R Marine stands for Deb (his wife) and Rudy. Deb answers the phone alot and Rudy is usually busier than a one-legged man in a butt-kickin' contest. Your customer service issue was truly unusual. Most people don't know this; they think that D&R is a huge warehouse operation a la Defender. It's not, it's just Rudy, his wife, and a barn in Assonet, MA. I was just down there this past Saturday. Lots of people coming and going. As a matter of fact, a guy drove all the way up from Rockaway just to drop off his standing rigging for Rudy to duplicate. If you've never been to Rudy's, stop by next time you're in the area. Kicking around his barn is almost as much fun as going sailing! Cheers, Bob

Need a hatch cover
Hello Everyone. I am new to this forum. I am a new owner of a 1970 Tempest. I have 2 needs that I am hoping someone can help me with. I am looking for a replacement hatch cover. The one I have is broken and leaked alot during our recent storm. Also my boat came with a through the hull discharge head, which is not legal in CA. I would like to know if I can remove it while she is in the water. If anyone can help you can either post it here or shoot me an email at my email address mstargee@yhoo.com Thanks for you help.. Mick

Rudy, however, happens to be the foremost source of parts specific to Oday sailboats, as he used to work for Oday directly. The chandlery here stocks lots of more general sailboat items, some of which are specific to Odays (there is a database with measurements for several models which facilitates ordering of canvas, cockpit cushions, sails, etc). Ordering from the chandlery helps support this site, but Rudy is a great resource for many items. Hope this helps, Trevor
