early Mariner

Cliff, you didn't say what year (model/centerboard/keel) Mariner you have. We have a centerboard model built in '66. If it is an early Mariner (built by O'Day), there wasn't much in the cuddy to begin. Two V berths, storage beneath each; a sink w/a thru hull beneath; a marine head w/a thru hull beneath, and two storage compartments. The interior was separated from the cockpit by a knee high bulkhead, with a 'walk through' the could be 'closed' off by a slide in 'hatch.' The area between the cuddy roof and the bulkhead was closed off as needed by a canvas screen. When you say the deck is missing, I'm assuming that you're referring to the decking in the cockpit. The decking was 3/8 (?) inch thick x about 4 (?) in. marine mahogany. There wasn't much else in the cockpit either. Two storage compartments, one on each side of the cockpit. The starboard compartment was insulated and served as a 'ice box.' If the boat that you have is one made by Stuart Marine, it's an entirely different animal from an O'Day. You'll have to ask someone that has one. Check usmariner.org, the class association website. For another source of help, post your needs on the trailersailor.com website. There are several posters there that have Mariners. Stuart Marine is the source of replacement parts, regardless of the year of your Mariner. Kind of expensive, though but they gotta eat too. aloha, win

ODay Mariner

Hi- win posted some good links for you to check out. www.trailersailor.com will be a great source of information. That is where I go with my questions. If there is anything I can answer for you, please send an e-mail ps3183@110.net. I have a 1976 Mariner. There is a company in Assonet, Massachusetts that sells parts for the Mariner. They are also a good source of info. Best of Luck, Craig Boston

Mariner Project Boat

Hi, Cliff I am also in the process of rebuilding a O'Day Mariner. Mine is a 1967 model with a centerboard. The boat is basically gutted at this moment. I took out most of the woodwork except for the bulkhead between the cockpit and the cabin and the bunks. I think I can salvage these with epoxy and "Git-Rot". My biggest problem is the non-existent fiberglass under the rubrail. I actually have holes in the hull in the area of the rubrail. I just finished rebuiding the trailor so I can move the boat into a garage I rented. My Email address is ATHLC@msn.com. Let's swap some war stories. Andre
