Well, I have found a leak. It seems to be coming in around the rubrail at the nav station and running down the side almost immediately below the shore power hookup. Any one have experience removing the rubrail? Or am I missing something obvious? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks James

Captjames,

If you look at the rub rail it is actually a two part deal. The center section is called the insert. The insert covers the screws that hold the major portion of the rubrail on. The termination of the rub rail and the insert is on the transom. Look for a vertical seperation in the insert that has a screw securing it on both side. Remove one screw and use a pair of needle nosed pliers to carefully flake the insert out of the rub rail. You should start seeing screws about every 8" or so. That is what hold the rubrail on and on smaller boats is the deck to hull connection. The 31 may be bolt (machine screw and nut) through and not just screw through. If you have a marine Catalog for boat parts such as West Marine, in the 2006 cataolog page 486-487 shows the rub rail and the insert. However, Ir you need to replace, I would call Rudy. Hope that helped r.w.landau

I have a 1985 26tfr and we changed our rub rail 2 years ago.It was pretty bad looking, it cameoff easy enough. I wouldlook at thepotential of possibly caulking theholes near where it seems tobeleaking from. However ifit is shot just changeit , a job better offf done on the hard. Rudy at d@r marine in mass.isyour best bet.
