oday javelin staugustine
i am in the process of buying and restoring a oday javelin its a 14ft boat with a fixed keel . the guy that i am buying it from started this project a while ago and he cut just about the whole transom out of the boat probally because of the core being rotted away i have learned that this is a common problem with the javelin. another question that i have is i am buying this boat for 200.00 $ is was just wondering what this boat is worth restored back to i t's original condition i think that this boat was built back in 1968 maybe. if their is any body that can give any idea of what this is worth once she is restored i would greatful of youre knowledge. thank you tom h staugustine fl.

Tom, you sure got a deal! Now the work begins! Anyway, for boat values you could consult the boats section of the NADA website (yes, it is a car value site, but I've found it a good source for boats too!) however, if restored properly...your boat could be worth more than the "Blue Book". I think O'Day built a lot fewer keel model Jevelins than centerboard ones and that could add value to the right buyer. I'd estimate (however, this is without seeing your boat) that she might be worth between $1000.00 and $4,000.00 restored.

http://javelinsailors.homestead.com/javelinsailors.html is a great source for all things Javelin and features a few restoration stories.

www.drmarine.com is THE source for O'Day parts and Rudy Nickerson (the "R" in D&R) is THE O'Day expert, but it is worth calling him (508) 644-3001 since he is not known for quick e-mail replies.
