Owen - Why a genoa? The daysailer gets most of its drive from the mainsail since the jib area is so small. In fact, other than hard upwind my daysailer sailed similarly with or without the jib. Where are you looking to make performance gains? Upwind? Downwind? I'd look to having a main in perfect condition before I'd got a genny. Then I'd add a spinnaker for downwind work.
