Just got an Oday Flying Saucer. Only info i can find is an original ad. Looks like its jib had a boom. This came with an aftermarket jib. I cant figure how the original was rigged. There is a block either side of the mast but no cleats for jib sheets. I know it was an auto style rig. Anyone have any clues or pics that might help?

Interesting looking boat, and if the brochure is accurate it should be interesting to sail on a plane in lighter wind. No idea how or where the jib sheets would cleat, but I have an idea for a self-tending boom. Since the foot of the jib is pretty short how about something like a broom stick or a piece of PVC plumbing? I would put a small shackle on each end of the "boom" to attach it to the forestay or sail tack, and to the clew of the sail. That way you can remove it easily when putting the sail away.

Good luck figuring out the jib cleating, and have fun sailing.

BTW, did the boat come with the elephant, or is that one of your additions?

It IS interesting isnt it. Couldnt let it go. The elephant is the clue that my youngins were helping me set it up. They are why i got this, my hobie 16 is a bit much for them. Great advice, i was gonna skip the boom but i think its the only way if not pulling tight and cleating, like the hobie. I will try a stick of some sort. Thanks
