I have seen references to several models of the Daysailer. These are refered to as DS1, DS2, and DS3. I have not been able to find anything which explains the differences. Can someone point me to an explanation or give a short summary on the differences between these models?

Because I can only load one picture per message, I will write three separate comments describing each. Here is the DS 1, characterized by typically wood coamings, (sometimes removed by owners) a wide cuddy opening and a lever to raise and lower the cb. Wooden slat floor and seats. The hulls of the 1 and 2 are identical, but the cuddy opening is different.

DS II
The biggest difference between the DS I and DS II is that the II has a molded in cockpit, and coamings. The cuddy opening is slightly smaller. The only wood on the DS II may be the small risers on the cb trunk top for the jib cleats, and the tiller of course. The DS II has a block system for raising and lowering the cb with lines.

The DS III is distinguished most easily from the other two by a smaller cuddy opening and a higher back end. It is not class legal, like the other two, because the hull is different. DS I were manufactured from 1957 through to 1997 excepting the years 73, 75 to 80, and 1993. DS II were manufactured from 1971 to 86, and I believe are still being manufactured. (My data ends for all models in 1997) The DS III were built from 87 to 92 I have used web pictures and pictures sent to me by others, as these pictures best show the differences between the models. I cannot take credit for these pictures, but am thankful for others. I have used these pictures without their specific permission.

There is also a nameplate on the side of the cuddy on some DS II that is of course a dead give away to what model it is. Also checking the HIN (Hull id number will tell you the year and month of manufacture (last four numbers in most cases).

early ds also have second set of mini stays mounted above regular stays, from top of mast to stay and back to mast, may also have wood floor boards as well as cockpit trim.

Sounds like you are describing diamond stays. Top of mast to outer end of spreader to base of mast. Helps to keep the mast in column. Is this what your are describing? I have also wondered if a second set of stays ran from the chain plate to the base of the spreaders at the mast. Let us know which.
