I'm looking to install a reverse cycle air conditioner in my O'Day 34. Does anyone have one installed in a 34 or 35? I am wondering where the unit would go. Where the return air, and supply line might be located. I am looking at a Dometic ECD11. Any thoughts on that? Thanks.

Why Reverse Cycle? I have full Air-Conditioning and Heat with NO REVERSE CYCLE! Remember that your air Conditioner pump will run whenever you want heat on those cold and clammy mornings in VA. And your saillboat has to be in the water. I can run my heat with my boat "on the Hard" on Very cold winter days here in Chicago. My Flagship Marine 9000 BTU air conditioner/16000 BTU Heat runs perfectly. I set my thermostat at 68 degrees, go have a cup of coffee, come back to my winter storage location, shovel snow (if Any) and start my project. Yes my boat has to be pluged in to 115 VAC, 60 Hz.

MarineAir Vector model on O'Day 35

Have had a 16000 BTU reverse cycle for 11 years. Works very well. It is in the midship wet locker on the starboard side. Will take some pictures and post.

I have a dometic a/c with reverse cycle heat. I mounted mine under the starboard settee with the pump in the wet locker. I have the through hull tee'd with a deck washdown and the head since I don't leave it running without me on board. The overboard discharge is on a t with a check valve to the shower sump. Allows both to drain over board but not to back flow into the sump. It works like a champ, but in the Potomac, the humidity can be so thick that there is a ton of condensate to drain from the tray. I highly recommend draining it to either its own sump or a shower sump so it can be pumped overboard without filling the general bilge. I also ducted it to the forepeak and the main cabin high up, with an additional low level duct directly into the cabin amidships. keeps the cabin under 80 degrees even in 100 degree heat. I will try and get pictures up this weekend.

Attached are the photos of the installation in the starboard wet locker with the pump in the starboard sette. You can see the main vent in the starboard bulkhead. There is another vent in the V berth chest of drawers and under the sink in the side of the vanity. The condensate is drained into the forward bilge with a small bilge pump that pumps it overboard. I built a shallow dam just aft of the mast step to contain the condensate and rain water from the mast in the forward bilge where the small bilge takes care of it.

Thanks for the pictures. I think I can get the Cruisair unit under the settee in my 34. I'm going to try that.

I made a wood box the same dimensions as Cruisair's ECD 11,000 BTU unit to see if it would go under the settee in my 34. It would fit , but just barely. I think I can make it work. It would seem that maximum circulation might occur if the return air was pulled over the starboard water tank and the return air grill was located around the foot of the nav table. The supply could be in the side of the V bearth drawer stack or in the forepeak. I am wondering if one supply line would be adequate. An alternate would be to have the return right at the unit pulling from the side of the settee and maybe two supply lines one fore and one aft. Any thoughts any of that would be appreciated.

As you can see from my pictures the exhaust hose connections take up a lot of room. Hoses for the supply air would do the same. Just a thought for consideration.

Did you split the six inch supply into 2 four inch lines?

I have a 6 inch duct out right next to the unit. Off the back side it tees into a 4 inch duct that then splits into 2, one for the main cabin and one for the v berth. Three outlets off 2 ducts made the hose run easy and works well.

Is that a 6" x 4" x 4" spliter. If so, who makes that? Thanks

The splitter is a 6x4x4. The sticker on it is MSI. I did a a google and came up with msihvac.com. It was installed be Southern Cross in Annapolis. Hope this gives you a lead.
