Purchasing a windlass this winter for our 40. Interested in guidance on the setup you have. Specifically, where/how is the windlass mounted and where is your cable run. I seen a 40 with the windlass mounted on the anchor locker hatch, do not think that is ideal.

Looking at AnchorLift Dolphin 1000watt 12V mounted in anchor locker on a 3/4" marine ply shelve fiberglass tabbed to the hull sides and bulkhead back. 100amp breaker will be installed in battery compartment under the rear berth. Calculated required wire gauge at 2awg.

Looking at that windlass' specs you are a little heavier than they recommend. I'd upsize it.
The 40's anchor locker is large so there is room to have the windlass inside it.
My boat came with the windlass installed aft of the locker.
The upside is that I have a capstan that is very useful. (Maxwell VW 1200)
The downside is that the motor is in the v-berth, which is OK because it stays out of the salt.
The other downside is that I have to be careful that the rode continues to drop into the locker ever since I downsized with HT chain.

Anyone have pictures of their windlass installed in the 40's locker?

Latest on the windlass install. I stuck with Anchorlift Dolphin after contacting the company for spares and learning its the previous modle with a 1200 watt 3 post motor.

Constructed a 1.5" thick shelf by doubling up 2 layers of 3/4 marine ply. Split each layer (front to back) to allow Install in the locker, offset the seams by 16" center of the windlass. Fiberglassed together and fiberglass tabbed on all sides.

Purchased 125' of 8mm DIN 766 Galvanized rode, to attach to the Rocna Mantus 20 (45lbs) anchor.

May have to adjust the anchor roller, haven't tried the fit yet.

Installed foot switches at the locker and a controller switch at the helm.
