Oday 39 Insight?

I've been looking for a larger boat, and recently came across a listing for an '83 Oday 39 that seems recently priced. Now I haven't seen it in person, so I can't speak about the condition, but I was attracted by the 3-cabin layout, as I've got 4 kids under 10. Do any of you have any experience/insight/info regarding the 39 that you'd be able to share with me? Construction? Handling? Layout?Thank you in advance.T J Furstenau

If you go to the following URL: ftp://ftp.sailnet.com/oday/you will find copies of O'Day 39 brochures from the 1980s.I have a 1982 39, and there are photos of it at the ftp site as well: name - Morpheus.Around 1982, O'Day Yachts and Jeanneau Yachts were owned by the same company. Jeanneau had a Philip Braind (sp?) designed "SunFizz 40" the molds for which were shared with O'Day and they produced the same boat but called it the O'Day 39. About 1984 Hunt Associates, the designers of most other O'Day boats, modified the 39 and it was then sold as the O'Day 40.I bought mine pre-owned about 6 years ago, and haven't been sorry. The 39 is listed as a "fast cruiser" , and I have found that to be true.There are several 39/40 owners on "sailnet's" oday-list. I love mine!

Check out the O'Day owners reviews. I have 3 kids under 6, and this was/is the boat for me.The only issue which I have had is blisters. Blisters are not known to be a common problem for O'Day boats, but for any boat which does not get hauled out on a regular basis and is in warm waters.....has a tendancy for blistering. The only reason I mentionit because I had 2 independant surveys done and neither one saw the blisters. It was not until I had removed all the bottom paint before they were visible. by the way this would not have detered me from my purchase, but it would have been cause for a reduction in price...Good luck!
