I purchased a 37' O’Day this past winter while on the hard. It was put in the water last Friday.I have noticed a lot of water in the bilge. I tracked it back to the opening under the batteries. I first thought was the keel bolts. But I don't see any keel bolts. What is the deal? The water is coming in through the hull where the fiberglass is cracked. Looking at the sketches of the 37, it looks like it is within a foot of the aft end of the keel. Q1. are there keel bolts or is the keel a part of the hull with lead poured in? Q2. has any one had this problem at this location?Thanks Bryan

Sounds like your boat

A:hit bottom and the force cracked the hullB:the yard dropped it when it was in the travel lift or maybe it wasn't blocked correctlyDid you get a survey?How bad is the crack?

Yes the boat was surveyed on the hard. I expect this has been an on going problem as the previous owner installed a bilge pump counter. I will pull the boat this week with the surveyor present. Hopefully it will be easy to identify. I will ask to leave it in the slings overnight and fill the bilge to see if I can locate the problem. Bryan

Interesting because

My 32 developed the same problem and I found a crack around the aft keel about 2 inches in circumference and a crack in the hull under the engine pan.Now my problem happened after I hauled for a paint job and after they put the boat back in the leak appeared,the crack under the engine pan was not visible so when I mede a 4" hole in the bottom of the engine pan I saw that this crack was old and maybe when they blocked the boat there was stress on the keelOk sounds like we have similar problems,my fix was to pour lacquer thinner untill I saw it come out of the crack in the keel now I now its nice and clean and ready for West Systems epoxy and before I poured it into the bilge around the crack I duct tape my shop vac to the crack in the keel untill it sucked epoxy out and then I put some glass mat around the crack and all has been well for 4 years nowBTWmy boat has a keel centerboard trunk and no keel bolts, I think yours has keel bolts and maybe thats where the water is coming in?

found the leak

I pulled the boat this morning. It is a moulded keel as part of the hull with lead poured/ placed in it. There is a 8 inch split on the bottom edge. I drilled a hole in the bottom and approximately 5+ gallons poured out. I grind it, tarped it and put a heater in the tent. I will wait a few days to ensure it is dry before glassing. I'll keep you postedGryan
