O'Day 37 cockpit drains-hoses to seacocks

We are new owners of a O'Day 37 and have come across the dreaded Marelon/RC Marine seacock handle breakage. (I know it's not really a seacock). I have replaced the valve, but the previous owner used 1-3/4 hose from the cockpit drains to the 1-1/2 tailpipes on the valves. Since valves are below waterline, I'd really rather use the proper hose size on the tailpipe - 1-1/2" - the problem is joining that w/ the 1-3/4" OD of the cockpit drains. At first I thought I'd build some sort of coupler between the two hose sizes, but west marine et al seem to stop at 1-1/2" fittings.

The next thought is to bond a 1-1/2" marelon tailpipe via 3M 5200 to the bottom of the cockpit drain and then have one contiguous 1-1/2" piece of hose between the two. The OD of the tailpipe threaded section and the cockpit drain are about the same- some 5200 followed by covering in fiber glassing should be ok? Ok w/ the different material types? Thoughts?

Follow up pic - also to mention the cockpit drains are molded to the cockpit floor. Short of cutting them out w/ a dremel I'm stuck w/ mating to them.

If the joint failed for whatever reason you will be filling your boat up with water. Listen to Ross, you can get a rubber reducer at Home Depot or equiv. that will clamp to each pipe and suit the purpose.

Hi Ross I'm new to sailing and do not know the configuration of a 37. I am though a pretty decent custom home builder including plumber. My 272 cockpit drain exits above the waterline. It may not be as attractive with a hole in the transom but it permits one less hole below the waterline. Consider a 1.75 above waterline through hull and capping the existing valves. If you insist on or must use the below water line through hulls, I would suggest going with barbed adapters, nylon or bronze. I would make the change above the water line, Ferguson Enterprizes would have them if anyone in your area does. You could go from barbed 1.75 to ip, then ip to barbed 1.5. If neither fitting is reducing, you could go with a reducing bushing or coupling. If the 1.75 barbed fitting is not available, bush the 1.75 under the cockpit up to 2.0 then use a reducing Fernco 2.0 to 1.5, then a bronze or nylon barbed coupling or nipple with double SS hose clamps.

Project completed - we used a Fernco 1.25", which happened to be just enough to mildly stretch around the cockpit drain, but small enough to fit a 1.5" adapter to the 1.5" shields exhaust hose mated to the marelon seacocks. (I love how ever manufacturer has their own definition of 1.5" ID!) anyways, should the fernco fail, the sheilds hose is rigid enough to hold up, the waterline is ~10" above the seacock.
