Approximately 1 year ago I purchased my first sailboat (o'day 37 cc). Within that year I have greatly improved my sailing skills and mostly have developed a great trust in my vessel mostly proven in rough seas. As I write this letter the 58th Annapolis to Newport sailing race is underway in which I have been following with great interest. Not just because of the tradition to this event but to see the top sailboats and crew battle for first through the Chesapeake Bay and Atlantic ocean. This years event has caught me by complete surprise in that an O'day 37 cc is participating. I purchased my boat for Chesapeake Bay sailing and my model is racing in the Atlantic! Are there any O'day owners out there who are comfortable sailing in the ocean? Does this mean that I can begin exploring "over the horizon" when I feel more comfortable with my ability?

blue water O'day

I sailed my 1980 O'day 37 cc from Puerto Rico to Pennsacola Fl (2000 miles) with no engine and no sailing experience. We ran across a few high seas but it handled great. Since then I replaced the engine with a 40 hp westerbeke and have sailed from Ft Walton Bch Fl. to Cancun in rough weather..No problem..Terry

Look at the photos

Craig: On this web site there is a section for all models of O'day boats. The 37cc in particular has several nice photos of boats from all over the world. I'm sure those boats "crossed the pond" as blue water boats. The O'day if nothing else is mighty solid.
