I am single 60ish male looking to move aboard a sailboat for the next few years. I have owned Catalina 30, Com-pac 27 and have sailed on numerous boats up to 70' schooner. However, I want a boat for coastal cruising, bahamas and possible Carib. Is the Oday 35 a boat I should consider. Appreciate all honest replies as have one in my sights right now. Thansk, John

I'd liveaboard mine! I love this boat. Sure it would be great to have a larger, bluewater boat, but if this one's in your sights and one that is affordable, go for it. My family of four plus a dog lives aboard for weeks at a time throughout the summer and we get along quite well. If it's just you, you'll have plenty of room. If you're singlehanding this may be about as much boat as you'll want.
For a coastal liveaboard, the O35 is a great way to get used to life aboard. Maintenance is easy, systems are straightforward. I spend a lot of the summer on mine.
For a crossing to the Bahamas, I would recommend a coastal hop vice a direct shot, the O35 tends to pounds a bit more than some others. Are you looking at a shoal or deep draft version?

Thanks for reply. This boat is deep draft, so don't know if that would help wiitth pounding. I am looking at this boat and an S-2 36' which is a little more expensive but seems to maybe be a bit better. Used to live in Alexandria, loved it.

The deeper draft will help to windward for sure. I have had my 35 along the coast from DC up to Providence, RI and back so they do very well coastal. They do tend to be a little soft (flexible?) compared to later or heavier layups. But we have had ours since 2005, and it has been a blast to sail and vacation on. I added air conditioning, a TV and some other liveaboard mods as I was planning to live aboard solo. Those plans changed, but I have spent about 10 days aboard with a total of 5 people.
