O'Day 34 rub rail

Hello Members,

Recently, our 1984 O'Day 34 had its rub rail damaged in an area about 2 feet long. It was due to my tieing the boat improperly :cry: . Fortunately, the rub rail did its job and protected the hull from rubbing the piling.

Questions: (1) Does anyone have a short piece of black rub rail left over from a similar repair or a refit? The black vinyl rub rail is "D" shaped. It is about 2 inches tall and has a black insert along the length of its thickest part. There is a lip on the lower edge on the inside where it contacts the hull. The vinyl rub rail is screwed directly to the hull. (2) Is there a source of short lengths of rub rail? I think it is Taco, but their black rub rail measures 1 7/8 inch tall, and I have only found sources selling 50 or 70 foot lengths.

I did refer to the previous posts, but did not find exactly what I needed. I am also checking internet sources that appear in general searches

26/July/2010 - 4:15 PM EDST: Thanks for the responses. I have tried drmarine and Taco sites. Many Thanks to jibes 138 for the offer to send a piece of rub rail. It seems that someone must have changed this rub rail to something other than the original.

Individuality among sailors.........imagine that!

I'll keep looking or perhaps go into repair mode. Any suggestions on a material to accomplish a repair of the damaged vinyl? I'm considering black 5200.

I have a length of rub rail but it is white. I don't recall seeing a black rub rail and also a black insert on the O'Days?? My rub rail is the white with a black insert. I had to buy about 20 feet in order to get the 2 feet I needed. I can send you a chunk if it is what you need. Send me a private message if you want a piece of the white.

Sailorjoe, yeah I have a big length of it rolled up in my garage. Got it from D&R in maybe a 20 foot length. Send me your address in a private message and I'll send you a piece. Take a measurement first as you don't want to be left short.

Hello Members, I've been busy searching for a match. The rub rail I need is TACO V11 2423 BK (black with black insert) (1 7/8 inch X 1 1/16 inch). It is shaped like a capital "D". If anyone has used this shape on a project and have some left I'm interested in hearing from you. The shortest I can find is 50 feet. I asked WM and a person actually called TACO for price by the foot or seconds. No luck. Thanks again for looking. Phil
