I have a 1984 ODay 34 with a Universal M25 engine and a Hurth transmission. I'm having a problem with the transmission; it almost always locks up when it goes into reverse, and stalls the engine. No noises of any kind, and works perfectly in forward. I'm a pretty good mechanic, but somewhat overextended with projects right now, so I've decided to see if I can find a decent used transmission or, maybe even a $$$ rebuilt one.
Does anyone know the Hurth model number (it should be either HBW-50 or HBW-100)? If I wanted to put in a more robust unit, would the next model up fit? Finally, does anyone know of a reasonable $$$ source for a rebuilt unit?
