O'Day 32CC rudderpost location during emergency

I am looking to buy either a late 70's or early 80's model O'day 30 or 32CC because I need their shallow draft capability(3.50ft. on the 30 and 3.33 on the 32CC) due to a sand bar at the mouth of my creek. The shallow draft will give me a longer time window to negotiate this bar safety. What I need to know is, on the 32CC, in the event of a wheel malfunction in the cockpit, where and how can the actual rudderpost be accessed for emergency steering? I suppose the rudder post head is below the aft. berth, but is there a deck plate on top of the aft house to facilitate steering from the cockpit? I can certainly add a deck plate if necessary. I believe that it would take an extended post of over 7ft. tall from the rudderpost head to clear the top of the aft house roof on which to attach a tiller. Thank you, ladies and gentlemen. Seabeau.

Sunbird: I saw the post concerning the 32 CC emergency tiller after I made my original post and I don't think of that solution is #1, viable, in any thing more than a placid sea state due to the open front facing hatch. #2, necessitates two persons to maneuver and #3, seems to be somewhat limited in its turning radius, although I many be incorrect in this assumption. I believe as I previously stated that with a correctly sized deck plate located in the proper location on the cabin roof, an elongated rudder post could be affixed ,extending thu this opening in the aft cabin roof, attached to a tiller extending to the rear of the cockpit. Thank you.

Basically. I was referring more to the pictures showing the location of the rudder shaft access. I agree the tiller shown does not seem ideal, but as I say..... it does show how it connects to the rudder shaft which was my reason for posting.

Yes, and I certainly thank you for you help and interest in making all these boats better and safer. Prior to making my initial post, I performed a "Search", but perhaps my parameters were to large, being new to this site I'm having difficulties with the "Search" function's discrimination of words and phrases. P.S. I did however, find the information, you provided on the broken push/pull cable on the 34 quite informative and I believe that it would behoove anyone with a similar system to both maintain it properly and even have a spare cable in case on an emergency. Thank you, Seabeau.
