I'm thinking about at buying an Oday 322, but I often find myself cruising in light air 5-10 kts, or even ghosting. I hear the 322 is good in a blow, but how's it in light air?

My 322 goes along nice in light air. 3-4 Knots with about a 7-10 km wind......any slower and we are sparking up the engine

My only experience is with a 302, which does prefer at least moderate to heavy air, but that can be said about many boats.....My 272 sails much better in medium air..it does enjoy being reefed in heavier air after which it sails like a dream. The single line reefing systems work well and I think the 302 and 322 have 2 mainsail reefs. There is one on the 272. One of my favorite ways to sail the 272 is with a reefed main and perhaps a
70 percent headsail...

I have been racing my 322 for 2 years and am just learning how to get it moving in light air. A cruising spinnaker would be a great thing to have on those light air days. I use mine while single handling the boat to different races in S.W. Fl. I have posted a light air video on you tube and you can find it by searching light wind sailboat racing or oday322. The boat moved around nicely and even passed the lightest boats including a 26 McGregor in 2 to 4 knots of wind using a 155 Mylar headsail.
Everyone that comes aboard the boat likes it and it does seem to be bigger than most in the 30 to 35 foot range. The boat turns almost too easily so you have to watch the guest when they take the helm. I have done many things to make it easier to get out and sail and would highly recommend a good fuller and an auto pilot so you can enjoy the boat and not have to work as hard. Also a good main sail cradle cover with lazy jacks makes raising and storing the main sail a breeze.
