I pulled my salon hatch today to rebed it (work day instead of sail day today :-(.

Here is what the composite sandwich looks:

You can see the top layer of gel coat and fiberglass, then a layer of some sort of foam in the middle and then the bottom layer of glass gel coat (or whatever dresses up the inside liner).

Rebed with butyl tape. Hopefully that seals her up.

She was bed with butyl, but not a great job.

Will see after tonight’s rain!

Nice pics, Greg. Good job.
I haven’t had any problem with mine.

Replaced both of my hatches with new Lewmars a few seasons ago, with lot's of butyl. I love them. Good luck with tonight's rain Greg!

Mickstr,
When replacing your old hatches with new ones, how close were the dimensions of the new ones compared to your old hatches. Did you have to do much modifacation the opening?

Just a note to say “no water in the cabin”!

When I was out at the boat on a Friday, no water on the table and the bilge was dry....

So hopefully that means I did a decent job on the hatch rebed.

Will try the front hatch next time I have a work day at the marina.

Sorry, just saw this. The new hatches were exact replacements of the existing Lewmars.
