I'm considering buying an O'Day 32 center cockpit, but I'm reading horror stories about centerboards being stuck -- is it something to worry about on the 32? Also, I wonder if it sails well. Any input would be helpful.

O'Day

I have sailed on a 32 O'Day C.C and I thought it was a great sailing boat. Tons of room, great view perspectives, solid feeling boat. He has had no problems with the board getting stuck, but he uses it 3X a week. I think that you will find that any boat with a board that is neglected or abandoned this is a common problem. Proper inspection and maintenance of the board is necessary, just like all the other systems on any boat. I have a cb on my boat too and have had zero problems. I maintain it and use it frequently. So tell your wife or signifacant other, If we buy this boat it is required that we use it. This could get you out of alot of crappy things i.e shopping trips, in-laws, her friends sons h.s graduations, all the stuff you really hate doing, but do because you would have to come up with a lame excuse. This is real one. BTW if it gets stuck it isnt the end of the world. The boat sails fine with it up, just doesnt point as high. Rob Hessenius

Centerboard

I had a 32 center cockpit for 20 years. You need to make sure that you take care of it whenever it is hauled but will have no problems if you do. I also had a spare wire that I could hook up if it broke. The centerboard did help it sail better. Jim
