Hi,everyone- I just bought a new-to-me 32,and am curious about any known issues. My current to-do list includes new mast boot, finding a leak in the aft cabin, better battery storage, and the possible removal of some thru-hulls left over from previous owner repowering the boat. Also need to replace speed, depth,VHF,related wiring, install GFCI and then do the usual bottom-painting and teak-tending :D and try to be in the water May/June-ish...
I've really enjoyed reading these forums and thanks in advance for any ideas!

Hi Bill. Welcome aboard.
There are 60 plus O'Day pages in the oday bigger boat forum. Suggest you start at page one and work your way through. Lots of good info.
Where are you located on the bay?

We are on the hard by the bohemia just north of you. We spend the season in rock hall. Hope you get to spend some time exploring the upper bay. There is a handy marine supply store just north of you, Collie's on rt 213, Chesapeake city.

Congrats on the new boat! I have a 302 and am located on the Rock River near White Rocks. I am currently in maintenance mode as well and am working hard to have it in the water by May.

Thanks Wdmcp- I'm pretty sure you'll be hearing from me!
Curious about why you'd replace the entire hull liner- by choice,or necessity?

Congratulations on your new boat.

My experience is that all (recreational vs. offshore) boats are pretty much the same. Any boats that have chainplates embedded in bulkheads have some different ANSWERS to rebedding chainplates, but it's simple: chainplates should be (and aren't often) dealt with AS BASIC MAINTENANCE items. No different than stanchions or impellers.

That stuff works for ANY boat. Before or after purchase.

Good luck.

Congrats, We've got an O'Day 37CC, big sister to the 32CC. We've done most of the big projects, just lmk and I can post some pics or advice - new engine, new A/C & heat, plumbing, holding tank, refer, ports, rigging, rebuilding rudder, decking, delamination, electrics and electronics.

The hull liner was old . Had some mold issues and stains. Replaced with new from Sail Rite.

The hull liner is a foam and fabric material that is glued to the inside of the hull.
Similar to a head liner in a car

Mine also has the fiberglass liner, and it looks like I'll be doing some trimming/cutting...two stanchions in the aft cockpit leaking,no backing plates, either. I can access two but all four need to be done,so looks like the liner needs to be cut to reach the forward-most two... I'm wondering what to use for the backing plates...1/4 inch aluminum plates, marine ply,Starboard? As always I welcome suggestions from those who have already 'been there, done that'!!

I think I would use stainless or marine ply wood. I have only had to fix one and used stainless washers .

Thanks- looks like the Starboard is definitely out, judging by what I'm reading. So either marine ply, metal,or G-10 seem to be the choices.

I would use stainless. However, is it possible that there are plates glassed-in? I redid the stanchions on a friend's O'day 26 the other day, and he had no backing plates. But when I drilled them larger to epoxy them, there was a metal plate inside the deck.

You might be able to spot it. By the way, getting to those nuts behind the liner was a pain. The bolts run right up against the fiberglass liner in some places, and getting a wrench on the nut is tough. Also, the access ports are small. Good luck!

It is possible, but not likely, judging by what I've seen so far- I will definitely check! If they are there they would seem to be too small, particularly near the rear of the cockpit. My liner seems to cover the forward most stern rail mounting pads, so I'll have to make some access there.

Updating- plumbing, as in water and waste turns out to have been bad... Going to be putting in new tanks, tank mounts and plumbing, hopefully to include a small water heater and an accumulator tank for the pressure water system, and a foot pump for the galley sink...
