I have a 1977 27 & it sails great -- I need something bigger -- I'm looking at both the 30 & the 32 center cockpit. Do wither of them sail as well as the 27? Any feedback on performance for these boats would be appreciated.

30 vs. 32

the 30 is not a CC. Only the 32 and the 37. The 30 is a much better sailer than the CC model, although you're trading off the added space of the aft berth for performance.

I hope you don't think I'm bashing

RAD, I hope you don't think I'm bashing the 32CC.....They are great with family and they sail ok. Not racers (but then again what O'Day really is??) I only wish that the CC's had a walkthrough aft from the salon to the aft stateroom. I work at a Bene dealership and did extensive rebuild work on a Bene 36CC. Amazing what you can do with all that room......

Mike,

I know your not bashing, you know how many times a day I wish there was a walk thru. Some days I feel like a monkey hopping from the main cabin to the aft cabin then back to the main then up to the cockpit (you get the picture)and then I go over to my buddy's Catalina 30 and look at all the room below and think about how they designed and made use of the space. I almost bought a Pearson 36-2 last year for the space below and performance but the wife talked me out of it(she loves our aft cabin) and I would love a 37 ODay if they made one with a shoal draft but they don't.

There's always Milford

Hi there, it's your friendly neighborhood broken record! If you want to get an up-close look at 30's, 32's, 322's and more, why not head up to Milford, CT, this July (you can sail or drive up) for the 5th annual O'day owners rOnDAYvous? We're expecting about 25 or so boats of all sizes (from a 192 to a few 40's), and I'm sure any owner there would be glad to give you a walk-through and a test sail. (That includes me.) Let me know if you'd like more info. Pete s/v EmmieLou (O-322) Little Silver, NJ

Denise

there's a 37

Center cockpit for sail at sailing associates in Georgetown MD (eastern shore) I have a O30 and love it. One friend in my yacht club bought a 322 Which is only 4'2" draft with it's wing keel. Very beautiful boat! but I think it was actually built by peason. I like the teak louver doors for the head and V berth cabin on my O30. Don't like the leaks from the keel stepped mast. I like the living room like main salon. Undecided on the "smallish" cockpit. I like the 177 PHRF rating on the 30 (if it's true, and I ever lean to sail more agressively in the races LOL) My boat has 4'11" draft fin keel, some O30s had center board keels too I think. good luck!
