Dear friends,

I am new comer to Oday Owner Forum and to be honest I am a potential owner, in that I am thinking of buying a Oday 30 for sail in Greece at, what I think,a reasonable price (6,000 euro = $ 8,590). However, before I go ahead I was wondering if I could invite some friendly and constructive comments from some of you proud owners of Oday boats, that I am sure have a lot of experience and knowledge on such issues. The catch to this boat, as you can see from the photos, is that it is missing basic items, and I was wondering if the company still produces these boats. The owner assures me that it is new, but as far as I can see on the internet I find no new buildings (the most recent are 1980's). I maybe looking in the wrong place however..... My concern is, whether I can find the missing parts and how easy would it be (and cost wise !!) to fit them !!
I would be grateful for any suggestions and comments. Thanks

Basil

Run! From the looks of it.. the boat has been stripped of anything of value!

I agree with Denise. There are plenty of other sailboats on the market look at euro boats on the market. You will get better service/parts availability.

O'Day has long since been out of business. If the previous owner told you otherwise, don't believe ANYTHING he says. More to your question - what parts? Most hardware for these boats were and still are made by other manufacturers so the answer depends on what parts you are missing. If you are missing the mast and standing rigging, the value of the boat is much lower than what you stated.

This is a rough swag, but the cost to fit out a bare hull would start with:

All prices are $ and are new and used parts

Traveller and main sheet blocks: 2000
2 primary 2 speed winches: 3200
Mast: 5400
Boom: 2400
Rigging and tuning 3400
Sails: main and 150 jib; 4000
Running rigging: 800
Instrumentation and GPS: 6500+
Lifelines: 1500
Engine? 5400
Prop and shaft 2500
Paint and wax: 800
Anchor and rode 1000
Lighting: 1000

A well furnished oday 30 goes for 16000 to 25000 on the east coast of the us, and they make great coastal cruisers but would take some substantial upgrades for offshore use. I personally love my oday 35, and would by another, but for the age and price, I would keep looking if I were you. Oday stopped manufacturing in 1990s. But the 302 is being built in Japan but I am unsure if they are carrying the oday nameplate. The originals stopped being produced in 1984.

Good choice Basil. That is a boat more atuned to the most rabid Oday owner. Good luck with your search.

Basil,
You could probably find a nice complete boat here in the states and have it shipped to you ready to sail.....run fast away from that Oday
