I just bought a 1980 O'Day 30. When trying to open the emergency tiller deck plate, the edges of the plate just chip away.

I bought a 4-inch deck plate at West Marine, but it is about 1/4-inch smaller in diameter than the existing deck plate.

Does the O'Day 30 have a unique sized emergency tiller deck plate? And if so, where can I get a replacement?

It's old and doubtful you will find the original. We just cut it out and installed a larger one. Then you will find condensation forming on the bottom side of the plate that drips on the plywood and down into the hollow rudder shaft. Still haven't found a way to stop the condensation yet.

I had been looking around to replace the deckplate over the rudder post for a few months. But my search took on a level of urgency when a yard worker stepped on the plate and broke it in half. And then I found that a Beckson 4-inch screw-out deckplate was the perfect fit, diameter and depth, to replace the original. Found it at West Marine.

The brand is PIHI(pie high). I think that Bomar currently owns what is left and may have parts. I replaced mine many moons ago at Mikes Marine Supply at Toledo Beach Marina in Monroe, Michigan.
