O'Day 30 centerboard and misc. parts

First time on this web site--any help is appreciated. Line to centerboard is frayed topside and must be replaced. Never used c/b and don't know how line is connected. Topside is an eye splice. Also don't know the length of line required--nothing in manuals. Would like to solve these mysteries before I have boat hauled. Also, need a replacement for bow navigation light--mishap with a dock!! Are 1984 O'Day 30 parts available anywhere? Finally, Universal diesel M-18 is missing the grease cup--replacement part avaialble?

Morning Harold:Can't help you much with the centerboard but if you will check in the archives, you'll fine plenty of posts, as it's just about one of the number one topics.A nav light can be found at just about any marine supplier such as West Marine, Defender, etc. there are too many to mention and there are numerous models and types.Check with Rudy Nickerson at "DRMarine.com" for any parts specific to your model. 30 centerboard answers

I bought a '82 30 several years ago that the previous owner had shimmed the board in the up position with shingles, so when I had it on stands I removed the board by unscrewing the metal plates towards the forward end of the keel. These hold the pivot bar in place. Make sure to put some blocking under the board so it doesn't come down on you. I believe what I did was install a stainless steel fitting into the upper edge of the board and tied a new line onto that coupling. The entire trunk was overgrown with dried marine growth so cleaned it out and gave it two coats of good bottom paint. When I put the board back up I blocked it and used a 2x4 as a lever to push it back up in place. Also lubricated the pivot rod with lithium grease.Seems to work fine now. I also now have a small pit under the boat when it comes home in my yard so I can lower the board part ways and at least get some bottom paint on it and clean around the trunk.Hope this helps.
