Hi All,

I am curious about the hinged backrest on my Oday 28. Is there a safe way to keep them up when using the settee as a bunk? Any descriptions or even better photo's would be greatly appreciated. I am having settee cushions made from scratch for the port and starboard sides. They will be my and my wife's primary bunks.

It looks like the previous owner may have changed the hinges and any hardware to hold them up.

Thanks,

Chris

What year is yours? Our 85 didn't have hinges - it had the backrest mounted onto a rod, and holders for the rod at 2 heights. You may be able to see the upper level holder in the attached.

Chris, I checked my library of O'DAY 28 pictures and the only pics I had of a 1980 model were from one listed on eBay that needed serious TLC. However, there were a couple of pics that seem to show wood blocks mounted on the main bulkhead that have some kind of latch or hook to hold the backrests up out of the way. Picture is attached. I also checked what I had for 1979 boats, but no sign of those blocks. The rest of the pictures I have are 1984 or later, and it appears they have the larger backrests as shown in Davidsailor's posting.
At least I think that is what those blocks are for? after posting here, they almost look like AC power outlets?

I have a 79, and backrests do not hinge. great idea though. the po built cabinets above which is really nice, but would not allow hinge up. we wedge under the backrest if sleeping in the settees.

According to Rudy from D & R Marine the hinges are not original the Oday 28 1980.
Now I need to address the hull liner as mine are mold covered.
