O'day 28 Questions

Hello,

I am looking at buying a 1979 O'day 28. I was wondering if someone could tell me what the port holes on both sides of the boat go to? I am specifically wondering about the port side. Also, the boat I am looking at has the engine removed and will be using an outboard. Has anyone had an issue with the outboard reaching the water with the engine removed? The outboard I would be using has a long shaft, but am still curious if the boat will be too light in the back with the engine removed. I notice on both sides of the hull there are indents or two areas where it is bowed inward. I read on another forum people talking on this on there O'day 28s, but am wondering if anyone had any more information on it.

It is possible the indentions are there because the chainplates/side stays are attached to the hull via
rod rigging....sometimes if tightened too tight it can cause what is called 'oil canning' of the hull....
typically is not a serious deal but may indicate the rigging was made too tight at some point in the
boat's life. I have only seen this on one O'day 28...others may have a better idea than me....good luck with your boat....the O'day 28's are ball-rooms down below.....one of my favorite boats! Pat

I'm confused at your question about the "port holes". Do you mean the port-lights ie: windows? I assume not, but more detail to your question (pictures?) would help.
