I just bought a 1980 O'day 28. There is a cut end of a hose in the bilge. i think it is supposed to be connected to a bilge pump. Can anyone tell me where that bilge pump discharge line goes? It disappears under the floor and I would like to make sure it goes where it's supposed to before hooking up a new prmp.

Also, does anybody think it's worth the effort to also rebuild or replace the manual pump that mounts on the rear of the cockpit.

Thanks

Hello,
We have an Oday 272LE and the hose in our bilge is connected to the manual pump which exits thru the hull just below the pump (in the cockpit ).Ours works very well.

Good Luck

I have a 79 O'Day 28. There is a corrugated hose going forward under the head floor from the pump and exiting on the starboard bow. There also is a drain hose from the icebox near the aft end of the bilge. Is this the one you are asking about?

Thanks a ton - the hose I was asking about is the icebox drain. Never would've figured it out.

Do you have an electric bilge pump? If so, where does it discharge? Yjis boat had one but there is no sign of it or the discharge. I'm thinking maybe it went thru the hull along with the head sink drain.

Electric Bilge

When I bought my 84 ODay 28, the manual bilge pump was shot. Replacing the whole thing was kind of expensive, so this is what I did:
The corragated hose went from the bilge to the hand pump on the transom, then exited from the pump to the outlet at the transom near the exhaust. I disconnected the hoses at the hand pump and ran the hose from the bilge directly to the outlet. I then picked up a $10 electric bilge pump at Walmart and mounted it in the bilge at the end of the hose. I connected a smaller hose (I think it was 5/8") to the pump and ran it inside the corragated hose all the way to the outlet. The best part was that the boat was prewired for the pump, including the switch on the electric panel, and all I had to do was connect the pump to the wire which was located near the base of the mast. Now when I get water in the bilge, all I have to do is turn on the switch and it's pumped out in a few minutes.
One important thing: This pump is good for nuisance water (rain water) only and will not handle anything beyond that. I sail on a fresh water lake and am never more than two miles from a shore, so I'm not concerned about getting swamped by a rogue wave.

My head sink also drains to the bilge. The corrugated hose from the bilge drains forward on the right side, look on the outside for an exit thruhole above the waterline. The bilge hose connects to the thru hole near the head sink area. My bilge pump is the cheap $15.00 Rule type. Do you have a bilge pump switch on your panel?
