Anybody know the length of the O’Day 28 backstay from mast to where it splits? I’d like to pre-make/ install that part of the backstay with an insulator at the top without having to climb the mast twice. Can’t find that info on any spec sheets.

run a tape meaure up the main halyard? Topping lift? Close enough should be good, as the trnbuckle can take up the remaining amount for fine tuning. Sorry no dimensions.

Here are the specs for the 1979 model, doesn't mention the split though. A call to D&R Marine should get an answer as to the correct length and wire sizes, Rudy Nickerson could make a replacement for you, but shipping charges might make a local rigger less $$.

From a 28 Manual that I found on-line:
Backstay (overall) 37'9"
(Upper section) 31'7" 7/32" 1x19 wire #7 eye at top, jaw at bottom
(lower section) 6' 5/32" 1x19 wire #5 jaw at top, turnbuckle at bottom (I assume 2 of thse pieces needed, one per side?)

"Spinnaker Pole Lift 3/8” x 48’"

I have a spinnaker halyard, but I dont have a "Spinnaker pole lift" on my o'day 28. Is that three forward facing sheaves on the mast-head?

Thanks
Chris
