Oday 272LE vs 280?

I am interested in purchasing a used O'day and have a few questions. The 272LE and the 280 appear very similar. It appears that the 272LE was built from about 1986 to 1988 and the 280 was built from about 1988 to 1990. Is this correct? Are these the only two models that have the shoal draft keel with 2'11" of draft? What exactly are the differences between the two models and what caused the name change? Any information about these two models would be appreciated. Also, if anyone has one for sale I would be interested.

272 vs. 280

Simon, This is one of my fororite topics to talk about. This is a question I was stuck with myself. So I did some "Extensive" research on the topic for my own satisfaction. Here is what I found out:272 vs. 272LE : The difference between the two are simply trim packages and options, with the LE being the one with more standard options. The 272 is classic O'Day blue and off-white, the LE is gray and red. The interior layout is the same. Aside from the color scheme, the LE comes standard with a factory-installed deisel engine, pedistal steering, and a port opening into the cockpit from the quarter-birth. (there may also be some monor differences in deck hardware)272LE vs. 280: the 280 was merely a marketing trick by pearson after they bought O'Day for a 28'footer. The 280 shares ALL the same hull and rig dimensions as the 272LE. so the 280 is this:*a 272LE hull, rig, steering system, ect.*fitted with a slightly modified Pearson 27 liner with more modern layout*an inboard deisel*redisigned topsides from the cockpit foreward*with all the 272LE hardware Check out the O'Day boats forum to see specs
