I currently sail an Oday 222 and love the boat. However, my wife and I think we are ready for a larger boat with a wheel. I have been looking (although we have not sail on either of them) at an Oday 272 and the 28 or a Catalina 27. These boats are in the same price range and I would like to know from anyone if they have sailed the Cat or Oday which they would consider. My wife does not like a "heeling" boat, the 222 heels very easy and fast, does the Oday 28 heel less than the 272 or does the Cat heel less than both of the Odays? Also, please advise on any other differences that I should consider.

O' Day 272

I recently sold my O'Day 272 to move up to a new Catalina 320. I liked my 272 and have never sailed on a catalina 27. The O'day 272 is a lighter version of the O'day 27 and was designed as an entry level sailboat to attract more folks to sailing. Base price without engine, rig, launch and commisioning was about $20K.I sailed my 272 from florida across the Gulf stream to the Bahamas she is a good sailing boat but at 5000 lbs. she is very tender. Crew weight and positioning are everything so if tender is not in your bag the Catalina 27 may be a heavier more stable boat!
