Just thought I would post an update to my original thread. This summer I bought a 1978 Oday 27 for $500. The boat had all the stuff it needed, sails, diesel motor, cushions, complete marine ecosystem on the bottom.....I have since cleaned, scrubbed, hauled out and painted, added a depthsounder/fish finder, done some sailing, and gotten my wife interested in the boat!!! (The biggest factor of all) I am including a before and after photo. I bought the boat out of a marina in an industrial area, next to a giant scrap metal yard, and brought it out of the depths of dispair, to a pretty little cove on Whidbey Island where it has rested nicely all summer...

So what's on the agenda going forward? I have a certain affinity for the 27 so I will be quite curious to see your progress.

I remember that - nice job!

I hope the interior wasn't as bad as the exterior....

Soft Scrub might bleach out those stains on the hull - if they are iron stains, Iron-out would probably work- I'd use saturated paper towels / cloths and let them stay on the hull until done...

Anyway, congratulations, and kudos to you!

Show us the interior and update how that cleaned up.

Anything with oxalic acid should clean those topsides stains. On and Off is the classic waterline cleaner, the original formula, not the newfangled gel stuff. But I have also heard that The Works toilet cleaner does a good job too, and it's available at, say, Home Depot...
