I recently purchased an Oday 27, 1975 Model, with the engine taken out. The panel with the ignition switch and Oil & Temp guages has Alben on it. Is anyone familiar with that type of engine & maybe knows where I can get some specs on it. I have an Atomic 4 to go into it, but would like to know what the original equipment was. Any help would be appreciated.

Atomic 4

I have a 77 ODay 27 -- congratulations -- you got a great boat. If you haven't sailed it yet, you're in for a big treat! I have an atomic 4 and it's great. I know that people prefer diesel, but the Atomic 4 starts right up, runs smoothly & much more quietly than a diesel, produces less vibrations & delivers much more power. It's easy to maintain, reliable, & everyone has parts & is familiar with them.

Just A Wild Guess

Julian, just a shot in the dark here but the Albin marine company, a Swedish company, makers of Albin motor sailors, trawlers and the Albin Vega, did produce there own engine for their boats in the 60's and 70's. I remember my father inlaw talking about them. He has the Albin 27, motor sailor. He has a Volvo diesel. I also think they were a gasoline engine. I know you spelled it Alben. I have a couple of buddies with Atomic 4's and they love them. Are you installing the engine yourself? Don

Oday 27 inboard instalation

Don & Mike I am instaling it myself this spring. The Atomic 4 that I have has a reduction gear on it. Should this pose a room problem in the cave? Has anyone had any experience with this type of instalation? The only other things that need doing is attending to some deck delamination, Instaling new sheets & halyards and a little electrical work, new batteries etc. The boat is in Annapolis and I'm having it hauled down to Ga. in the spring. I have the engine here so I am cleaning it up, going over the hoses, thermostats and instaling electronic ignition. The engine was manf. in 75 and supposedly has only 2 or 3 hundred hours on it. Any suggestions appreciated

OEM Diesel-O'Day 27

Julian- I recently purchased an O'Day 27, that has reportedly been in Alaska since it was new. I do not know the model number, but it has 2 quarter berths (I do not have any of the manuals that came with the boat). It has a Farymann model 30 diesel with a very cantankerous personality. A friend who knew the original owners says it is the original engine. I am about ready to hang an O/B on the stern. I have obtained a copy of the original repair manual from a Farymann dealer in N.J. If you would like photos, or. . . let me know at wxly@xyz.net Dan
