ODAY 27 Compression block

Does anyone know what type wood was used for compression block in the ODAY 27 ( 1978 )?

I don't know what type of wood was used. Does it need to be the original or would you be happy with an acceptable substitute. White oak, mahogany, yellow pine are good hard stable and marine friendly woods that would do the job.
