Well, I say nose ring but what I mean is the ubolt there on the bow for attaching a mooring ball or attaching to a winch on the trailer.
While hauling out this year the cradle got caught up on the boat ramp. The water level was funny this year normally the level is quite low by now, but there was plenty on haul out day. In addition I used a ramp I have never used before.
The winch was attached to the bolt and the boat was mostly on the cradle. One of the beams from the cradle was grounded on the ramp where it goes up from the lake then levels out. We didn't notice it at first, so the driver (my brother
) kept pulling and all seemed well. We heard the beam scrape but not by much it seemed.
However after getting her up on dry land and checking things out I noticed that the ubolt was pulled out about an inch! So later inspection showed from the inside, that indeed the nuts on the ubolt had pulled into the glass about an inch.
So, this begs the question, why are there not washers or a backer plate on the studs of the ubolt? Was this how it came from O'Day or was there work there? There are only hex nuts at the end of each stud on the ubolt, and that seems odd to me. That ubolt attaches to a winch on a trailer and should hold a significant load if need be I would think.
There is a built up area that the bolt goes through inside, but I don't know if it is wood or all glass and resin as yet.
Anyone have any experience or thoughts on this?
My plan is to add a bit of glass sheets and add a backer plate connecting the studs as to reinforce it. But I find it very puzzling that there are not washers or a backer plate there. Just hex nuts on the studs through the built up area inside the hull. I can get pics if this in not clear, just dont have them at the moment.
