My next project during the cool weather season is to move my two halyard lines back to the cockpit. I know, in general, what parts to buy and their placement, but I'd like some specific input from anyone that's done it to their Oday 26. I'm also wondering where the line stopper should go relative to the winch. A photo would be great! Thanks.

friction is bad...
remember that no matter how you do it, friction is your enemy!!! Make as little turns of the line as you can. Put the line clutch/stopper foward of the winch so that you can use the winch under load if you need to.

Main Halyard
I brought just my main back because I have a roller jib. I attached a block at the base of the mast using a U-bolt through the cabin deck. I then ran the halyard across the end of the hatch, through the grab rail and mounted the clutch just above the name plate on the starboard side (on the side of the cabin, not the top). My plan was to use the existing sheet winch rather then install a second winch. This location also gave me a streight shot so I wouldn't have to mount a second block. It works fine, except the halyard tends to wrap on top of it's self when I use the winch, so I just pull it up by hand, a hard pull but it works ok. I can single hand it now and it is sure nice not having to go forward. If I was to do it again, I think I would mount a second block (deck organizer) and a small winch. Then just run the halyard between the hatch and the grab rail. Just remember, when using a winch you can put a lot of pressure/strain on the blocks and their attachment points. If you are running two halyards, just use a double block and clutch.
