After a couple years of repeatedly hand sewing up the original mainsail, I am treating my 1980 with a new sail this season. We sail in the Apostle Islands on Lake Superior. I was looking at Sailwarehouse.com and they list a couple options. a standard OEM replacement w/1 reef point for $550, an OEM style with full battens $675, and a 'coastal powerhead' with 2 reef points and top two full battens for $795. They are all 6oz dacron. Has anyone sailed these sails? How about a full battened sail on the 25? Ever used a two reef sail on it. Any other suggestions for new main sails? thanks, sPk

Phil is fair in his pricing, and the product back-up is good. The owner of the sailwarehouse is a poster here. I really know nothing of his products. Make sure that when you get the sail, that it fits and shapes right. Make sure the provider will correct any problems. r.w.landau

Thanks for your responses. I am still hoping someone has some experience with a fully battened main sail on the O'Day 25. My HobieCat 16 has fully battened sails and I like the shape & performance but I wasn't sure how well it would work on the O'Day. thanks, sPk

Full Batten Sail
I have full battens on my sail. My boat has won the New Port to Ensenada race as well as others. Full Batten sails give you a nice foil shape at all wind speeds. When you add lazy jacks you can take your main sail down without a hitch. The sail warehouse makes good after market sails that you will be happy with. I sail the California coast as well as AZ lakes. Love my boat.

I have an O'Day 26. Very similar to 25. My main has 4 battens. Is that what you call full batten. Works great. Mine also has a lot of roach. Makes for a very big Main Sail on boat that size. Sorry no pictures under sail... Kinda hard to take them sailing... Ed K 26

I have had very good experiances with the Sailwarehouse. We use two full and two partial battens on our 25.We only have a single reef . More than once I would have like a second reef out on Lake Michigan.

Yes, and from sailwarehouse. vids at http://www.youtube.com/user/keithorr . Select the shorter sailing vid and it shows the 4 batten main, standard rig, single reef version on a tall rig fin keel. One reef is plenty control for me in SF Bay when it blows. Don't know what version 25 you have.
