New owner looking to confirm the draft of a oday 25' 1976. Seems to be more than the common 2'3'' center board up spec all over the net.Also the rudder draft?

I quickley and very rough estimate with a stanley tape looked like 2'8'' but I guess when the rain stops I can get a more accurate look.

Curious what are you considering as the water line? That is one spec I don't remember seeing stated and never gave it any thought until I read your post.
I know my bottom paint ends 1" below the boot stripe and thought bottom paint always extended about an 1" above the true water line. Hard to tell from my photos where the bottom paint and water meet but I can see the 1" white line under the boot stripe.
I do know that the rudder extends below the keel 3" or 4", which was a design flaw I understand O'day corrected with the O'day 26.

The stated draft with CB up for the 25 was always listed as 2'3", however, in 1977 O'DAY increased the ballast by 300# without changing the listed draft, so.... I'd tend to go more for the draft listed for the 26 (basically a slight re-design of the 25, some say it was same hull?) of 2'6". O'DAY listed the rudder draft in 1981 as 2'8", but that may or may not be based on the CB up draft of 2'3", so I'd figure 2'11" rudder draft to be safe. I see that you have a 1976, so the original 2'3" draft should be accurate, but keep in mind the effects that I list below. I would say that the 2'8" rudder draft will also be about right for a 1976.
My impression is that all of these draft figures are measured from the "Designed" Waterline, that is the waterline with the boat loaded with normal gear and 5 persons aboard (@150# each person). I would also assume that at least rudder draft would depend on the boat floating nearly level fore and aft, so if all 5 persons were sitting in the cockpit.... the rudder might be a bit deeper. If you have a heavy outboard on the bracket (over 80#?) that will imerse the stern more, if only slightly.

I just try and stay in water that is deeper than my boat...Lol no seriously I figure for 3 feet on the rudder in my 77 oday 25 and i always fret about ripping it off the transom becuase i have the center keel in the up position and somehow wandered into the wrong place. I do ;my best not to go into places that I am not familiar with at full tilt. Exercise caution as im sure you know. My boat tends to sit a little lower in the stern and thats why I allow 3 feet or more to be on the safe side. So far so good.... Enjoy your new boat and good sailing.
