I have a 1978 O'Day 25 with an OMC Saildrive. There appears to be a bit of water getting into the lower unit. Fortunately, I have all the owner's and servicing manuals for the OMC, so pulling it and fixing it shouldn't be to much of a problem. However, I'm wondering if anyone has had a similar experience or has gone through rebuilding the lower unit. I'm hoping the leak is due to a bad O-ring or gasket someplace. Thanks

Water in the lower cylinder

I have a 1980 25 O'day and had the same problem last spring when I put my boat in the water.I purchased a new 9.9 mercury and used it all summer. This fall I pulled the sail drive out , mounted it on a piece of plywood hooked up power water and gas and had the same problem.I discovered the problem was only the exhaust manifold gasket .The day after thanksgiving I had the Engine running on the front lawn purring like a kitten.Learned a lot about the Sail Drive call me and I'll fill you in.(610)926-7534 work (717)569-8393 home.E mail gerald.gusavage@sealedair.com

Water in lower unit

I think I misunderstood your problem. When you said lower unit you meant the transmission.Sorry never had that problem.Call anyway if you like.
