I want to install a transom ladder on my 25. Has anyone done this latley? Any suggestions as to brands or anything else?

ladder

I ordered one from D&R MARINE. I used 3 pcs of 1/4 inch plywood to back it up; Using 1/4 pcs. allows the plywood to conform to the curve of the stern on my 1976 25'. The ladder is somewhat expensive but I'm very happy with it.

I will try and get a pic tomorrow. I removed the fake bulkhead on the port side to access the stern. My engine is on the starboard stern. You really should reinforce with plywood or something.

Transom

My engine is on the starboard side also. When the boat was built, O'Day encapsulated plywood into the starboard side of the transome only. I know to back up the ladder mount with something strong like either thick plywood or thick sheet aluminum. My only concern is getting the right length ladder so that it looks good when stowed in the up position, and yet is still long enough to be useful for actually getting back in the boat. West Marine sells a 36" ladder for $170, which is almost half of D&R's ladder at $300. I e-mailed Rudy to ask for dimensions.

$300 ladder

Must be one hell of a ladder to demand a price like that!!
