Sailors of the Oday 25,boats, 1980 After Hurricane Charley went through Punta Gorda Fl. I have had a lot of work to do on my boat ,but mostly top side. Question that I have does anyone know the pattern for applying the 1 1/4" long spacers on the bottom of the mast hinge plate ? Had 4 new ones made, but I don't if that is the right number?? Or were the location of the spacers go on the hinge plate ?? The hinge plate was damaged by the storms, but I was able to salvage it. . Sure could use some help. It is a 1980 boat. Thank you and Happy Holidays, Raymond Kelly

25' or 26' ?

Ray, Good to hear your damage from Charly was relativly minor. I'm not clear from your post if you have an O'Day 25 or 26? I have a 1984 26 and the spacers number 2. They are attached to the MAST base half of the mount system, not the deck half. (Does that make sense?) They are arranged For' to Aft at centerline of rhe mast. I can send pics if you need them. Of course all bets are off if you have a 25 footer...may very well be a different arrangement...I don't know. Anyway, good luck with the repair! Fair, winds, Mark mkp58@hotmail.com

mast spacers

MARK, THANK YOU FOR THE REPONCES, IT IS A 25' ODAY. SOME HOW THAT 26' JUMPED UP ON HEADING. I DID'NT KNOW THERE IS ONLY TWO SPACERS?? I AM SURE YOUR RIGHT. EVEN IF ITS 26' BOAT THAT YOU HAVE. I HAVE SO MANY HOLES UNDER THE BUTT OF THE MAST. REALLY HARD TO TELL THE PLACEMENT OF THE SPACES. FOUND A STACK OF QUARTERS TAPED TO THE BOTTOM ALSO. GLAD YOU TOLD ME ABOUT CENTER FORE AND AFT. DOES MAKE SENCE IF YOU THINK ABOUT IT. LETS THE MAST ROCK FROM PORT TO STARBOARD EASILY. THANK YOU HAPPY HOLIDAYS, raymondw2001@yahoo.com

Demasted

I was demasted in heavy winds and had to cut away my rig and sails. I am starting to replace what i have lost. Has anyone replace the stick on a 26? I have a replacement but it is a little larger and I am wandering how it will affect the way she sails.

Not speaking from experience, but...

I wouldn't think so...at least not soley due to a higher mast. If you use the extra height by utilizing larger sails, then yes...you'd be changing the sail plan and possibly the center of effort from the sails. especially if you go with a larger main and smaller jib. I don't think a change such as that would be drastic, and could very well be an improvement. Experience will be the judge on that issue. Good luck and let us know how it comes about (no pun intended!) Fair winds. Mark
