O'Day 25, Settee/bunk storage?

My 1980 25cb has a pull out double bed on the port side. But when the bed isn't pulled out, access to the storage under the bunk isn't convenient. Has anyone cut an access hole in the vertical face of the bunk? I was thinking of cutting a rectangular hole and making a nice wood cover for it for easier access. Do you think there would be strength, integrity issues with such an access hole cut?

I have also thought of doing the same . I really don't think there would be an issue. The reason I've yet to do it is that I would perfer to have some type of container that pivots out . this ideally would display the contents

I am in the same boat as you on this one. The decision that we made was to simply not store anything in there that might be needed in an emergency.

Same here, but i think a front bin would be hard to find things, stuff would just be piled in front. I can just see myself down on the floor (sole)with my head stuck in the opening pusing stuff around.
the tilt out ben would be to small i think, but mayby for cans, or food stuff or something.
I thought about making the top openings much larger, and using heavier materal so it wouldn't sag. But of course you would still have to move the cushions and the slid out.
If i made that side opening larger, but still through the top, it would make a good place for sails

I currently use some plastic storage bins in all the bunks (in case water drains through there). If I make the openings big enough, I may be able to just pull out the bin from the new opening.
