I need to replace the sheets (main & 150 genoa) and two halyards on my recently purchased ODay 25 (centerboard). Can anyone tell me the reccommended line sizings (length & diameter)? I do not trust measuring what is there now. Thanks.

Do your lines lead aft?
Chris, I just spent about 40 minutes drafting a reply and stupidly when back to see if I answered all you questions, thus through my stupidity I lost it all. I am to tired to do it again but felt I should start a dialog for info so I could respond later. You spell checkers out there leave me alone, I am beat and I just want to get out this reply. I can give you lengths but if your lines are lead back to the cockpit, they need lenghtened. You should consider splicing them yourself. That is what my "lost in space" message said and I will try to repeat it tomorrow. OK, So, I am a sailor and sailors help sailors tired or not. Splice it yourself! The fids will cost about $30 for a complete set. You will save $10 to 15 per splice. Not only can you do your own halyards but docklines in Nylon, outhauls, reefing lines, you name it.... My brother just bought his first boat. I spent about an hour at his house tonight showing him how to splice a loop for his outhaul in double braid. It was great! I showed him one and he did the next. It is a lost art and also a great way to bring sailors back to knowing their boats. My brother and I could have sat and talked boats for an hour , and we did but we also shared splicing knowledge (and two gimlets) and the ability to be able to splice any line that he may need. This is what my dad did for me with poly and three strand years ago. It takes a few trys but is worth the effort. Do it for your own sailing knowledge, then share it with others. r.w.landau

Good to hear from you! How is your crew? Yes,I am still a two boat owner but in negotiations. The Gimlet was used because the cupboard was bare. Did it quit snowing up there yet? sincerely r.w.

Make your own fid.....
out of a knitting needle. My wife had a box full of all different sizes. Found the right diameter and sawed off to correct length and it worked great. Just replaced my halyards and my eye splices look just as good as factory ones. One bit of advice.....as you are going thru the steps, NOTHING looks right until the last step, and then it all comes together. Oh what a feeling!
