ODay 25 Maximum Heel

What is the maximum heel for a 76 ODay 25? Does the rudder come out of the water and it automatically heads to wind? Have the swing keel, feels tender, just don't want to sink her

I don't know what the exact degree of heel is max for a Oday 25 however I do know that the Oday has a capsize ratio of 1.9 which is better than Cal,Cat,Erickson 25's. Im told anything below 2.0 is excellent. I think it has to do with the fact Oday is about 600 lbs. heaver and most of that is ballast. I have had decks awash many times and always started rounding up when I pointed to high, well before I exceeded any max heel.(Control loss). In 1973 I got knocked down in a Cat 27(Sails in water) coming out of Newport,Ca by a Santana gust off the high desert at 50+, full sail and no warning. Let the sheets go and it was over in less than 2 min. The Odays a great boat very forgiving.

You will not put her over with just heeling. It would require some serious heeling and then getting hit by a good size wave. I have put the rail in the water, but really did not mean to do it. Still had control. I find once I am heeled past 20 to 25 degrees I do not gain anymore speed, so there really is no reason to put her over any more than 20ish degrees other than pissing off my wife. I will admit, on occasion, I do not mind doing that.
