I will be scrapping out a 1980 O'Day 25, and selling the lead keel. The sale price of lead appears to be roughly $.60/lb. The keel weighs 1,800 pounds. How do I get to it the easyist way?? I will be taking off all the parts of value to sell, and then crush the boat.

I looked at the O'Day specs and it looks like the lead is on each side of the center board. Thanks for the input??

The lead in that keel is fully encapsulated in the stub keel. There's only a few pounds of lead in the centerboard. To get the lead out you're going to need to perform major destructive surgery on the keel. The lead is covered by epoxy on top and completely encased by fiberglass on the sides and bottom.
